NetWorking Using a Static Address
(static addressing) Assigning a specific IP address permanently to a specific system. Compare to dynamic addressing. This when you can set a certain IP on your computer that is a private IP on you own network. You can use static IP to connect to other computer on your network. We will show you how it is possible to set this up and use it between to computers.
1. Start > Control Panel > Network and Sharing > Change Adapter Settings. You should have window as such.
2. Upon this window you will want to click on properties and should be able to see Configure in the top right after clicking on properties.
3. Once clicking on configure, you will get internet protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties. From this we will be able to edit and create an specific IP address for to computer to share information. Important, when changing the IP address to a specific IP the first 3 number have to same for it to be your own network, the other computer will have to have the same first 3 number but different last number to be seen on the network.
4. Now once upon configure your IP and having the specific IP between the two computers you can open cmd prompt and type "ipconfig" you will get the Windows IP Configuration and be able to see networking specifics. Now under Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection> IPv4 Address> 192.168.21.1 which is the specific IP address we changed it. Once see this IP you can now go ahead and ping between the two computer to check and see if the IP address is good and correct.
5. Once you have pinged the computer it should run the files and between the two computer to see the connectivity. You will notice, say Ping statistics for 192.168.21.2 and have shown the replays from the other computer.
6. Now you see Ping Statistics for 192.168.21.2> Packets: sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost =0. this shows that the first computer was able to send test files to the other computer to see and receive with this the two computers are connected and able to send files between the two.
